1).
TORQUE SENSOR WILL REVOLUTIONISE MACHINE CONTROL
Sensor Technology will be launching their new E400 Torqsense Rotary Torque
Sensors at the MTEC 2004 Exhibition.
The E400 units utilise a non-contact measurement technique, so reduce the
previously difficult task of accurate real-time torque monitoring to the
simple task of literally mounting the transducer close to the machine drive
shaft under investigation. As such they stand to completely redefine the
expectation of machine builders and control engineers.
They feature integral electronics with digital and analog outputs for
torque, speed and power and are directly compatible with PC Interfaces such
as serial and USB, being user programmable for analog signal levels.
Other innovative features include built-in peak torque sampling, storage and
torque averaging. They can operate from a wide range of supply voltage.
To achieve the non-contact operation that makes the Torqsense transducer
range unique SAW (Surface Acoustic Waves) devices are used as frequency
dependent strain gauges to measure the change in resonant frequency caused
by strain experienced in the drive shaft. This measurement is directly
related to the torque and opens up new horizons for advancing all manner of
machine control.

2). Flush diaphragm Pressure Transmitter.
The GE LPX 7000 series is ideal for use in hostile conditions, where
conventional devices cannot accurately or reliably perform with
abrasive process media and cleaning processes, pressure shock,
condensation and other severe environmental conditions. Typical
applications include pressure monitoring in sludge, tar, coal slurry,
food processing and tank level monitoring of liquids and beverages,
chemicals, residues, cement and pulp/paper processes.
Performance of the GE LPX7000 Transmitter is assured by the
combination of an innovative oil-free, low displacement inductive
pressure element and rugged yet highly adaptable packaging.
The heat treated Inconel X750 diaphragm requires no isolation fluid
and moves typically just 0.2mm, enhancing long term mechanical
reliability. It is thicker than conventional flush diaphragm devices,
which also ensures a substantially longer life when used in abrasive
processes. A long neck design allows the flush diaphragm to be
located remotely from the electronics, allowing service at process
temperatures up to 250 deg C as standard and even 450 deg C by
can be accommodated using a custom version.

3). Reliable and Cost-effective Linear Position Sensor.
New from Penny & Giles is the SLS22O range of linear
position sensors. Available with 10mm or 20mm stroke
lengths, the spring loaded, low weight position sensors
have been designed to meet global and OEM demands
for reliable high performance in a cost-effective package.
Competitively priced, the SLS22O is suited to OEMs and
process control applications where the accurate measurement
of small deflections is required. Because the sensors are
designed for easy production they can be supplied from stock
or manufactured to order and despatched within three to five
days. For slightly longer applications up to 30mm, the company
says the range could be extended.

4). Low Cost handheld Humidity and Temperature Instrument.
The Rotronic HygroPalm 0 digital handheld measures both percentage
relative humidity (%rh) and temperature. It also computes and
displays dew-point and wet-bulb temperature.
The HygroPalm 0 can measure over the ranges of 0…100%rh
and -10…+60°C, with accuracies of ±1.5%rh and ±0.3°C.
It includes a number of useful features which can be accessed
via the keypad, such as calibration for both humidity and
temperature, selection of which variables are displayed, and
the activation of measurement trend indicators on the large,
clear LC display
For a limited period, the HygroPalm 0 is available for a special
price of £149 +VAT including delivery.
