Release of version 6.0 of PULSE.
Sound and vibration specialist, Brüel & Kjaer UK has
announced the release of version 6.0 of PULSE,
its sound and vibration measurement platform.
The new version is, as with all previous PULSE releases, a modular
and scalable system that caters for all levels of budget and analysis
needs. PULSE is the result of one of the largest software development
programs in the history of sound and vibration measurement and the
latest release puts this versatile system into a class of its own where
acoustic and vibration measurements are concerned.
With over 2000 customers worldwide already using PULSE for a range
of applications from aerospace and automotive through to industrial
and medical, PULSE is a state-of-the-art multi-analyser based on
proven Windows 2000® technology.
PULSE simplifies the entire sound and vibration test process from
calibration, through data acquisition and analysis to post-processing
and reporting. Using plug-and-play transducers, PULSE today offers
tremendous value including a simple low cost entry single-channel
system. PULSE front-ends are now more flexible - version 6.0 offers
a new, modular front-end with up to 31 channels in 5 input modules.
It also supports multiple front-ends of the same or different types.
Designed for field and laboratory use
Portable PULSE is based on a battery-powered front-end connected
to a suitable laptop or desktop PC. Its compactness and robustness
make it ideal for use in the field, laboratory or even in-car where you
can measure, analyse, verify and report results on the spot. The PC
connects to the front-end via a LAN connection. This can be a LAN
cable, a wireless LAN or the LAN in your office.
Portable PULSE's front-end supports transducers with standardised
TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) according to the IEEE
P1451.4 standard. The system automatically detects and identifies
connected transducers. No more setting up channel sensitivities or
entering transducer type into the measurement set-up - it's all done
automatically and users can just plug-and-play.
Real-time multi-analysis reduces measurement time and improves
The real-time capability of PULSE means that users see analysis
results instantaneously on-screen as they are measured, enabling
validation of data and assessment of potential problems immediately.
Combine this with automated reporting, and it becomes clear just
how fast PULSE delivers results.
Multi-analysis means users can run any combination of real-time
analysers in parallel on the same or different channels while displaying
real-time results on screen and saving time-data to disk. This unique
feature dramatically reduces measurement time, while improving
measurement quality. Analysers available include FFT, 1/n-octave
(CPB) order, and overall analyses.
Scalable hardware and modular software
The PULSE platform is the system of choice for large and small test
demands because it is scalable. It can be optimised for a user's
current analysis demands and expanded in the future as needs
grow, meaning that equipment doesn't become obsolete. Users
can simply scale up their current solution by adding extra functions
from the ever-growing catalogue of PULSE software applications.
Brüel & Kjaer PULSE software is modular with its base software
serving as a workspace to which users can add new software
modules for performing more specific applications such as Order
Analysis and Sound Quality. Hardware modules can also be scaled

range of applications. The Acoustic Test Consultant is a new PULSE
application that has been developed to simplify complex acoustic
measurement tasks. It also handles automatic measurements with
a robotic function. The existing Modal Test Consultant application
has also been upgraded to higher specifications and is now even
better able to handle structural dynamic measurements.
Uniting the different elements of PULSE and keeping work running
smoothly is a new version of WorkFlow Manager that simplifies
the test process from test cell to desktop.
Ease of Use
The PULSE user interface provides a logical and familiar
Windows-based environment that can be configured precisely for
a user's specific needs. Reporting is quick and easy as all charts,
layouts and measurement setups can be displayed on screen and
reported with just a few mouse clicks. PULSE allows display of
multiple plots on-screen simultaneously, creation of dynamic links
to Word reports or Excel spreadsheets and data export with drag
and drop simplicity.
