Carry Online With Interactive Sound Level Meters - Access Brüel & Kjær sound level meters over the internet

Online noise monitoring is now possible as Brüel & Kjær has developed a high-speed, web-browser functionality for its family of hand-held analysers.

This innovative design allows operators remote control access to the instrument - or instruments -from a mobile phone, PDA, iPhone or PC with Internet browser capability.

It enables the user to monitor prevailing noise levels in real-time, manage the measurement setup and retrieve measurement data, thereby keeping the operator in touch with their measurements at all times. Because the remote-connection functionality is hosted in the instrument, the user does not need any special software installed on their PC or phone. Any web browser can access the remote instrument without any complex setup.

Brüel & Kjær’s 2250, 2250 Light and 2270 meters are simply required to be active on a WLAN connection or available on the internet via a 3G, GPRS, EDGE or GPRS router connection. The user enters the unique IP address - or address label - of the instrument into the Internet address field, on the browser, to access the instrument via a mimic keyboard and touch screen display.

This feature is ideal for many different applications - concert organisers can have shared public access to the live display of the analyser for much quicker response when monitoring noise levels at music and sports venues.

Automotive engineers carrying out roadside noise assessment no longer need to actually be by the road when monitoring and managing measurements.

Acousticians measuring building facade can control their meter remotely from inside the building whilst the sound level meter is outside. And construction teams can utilise a number of instruments positioned around the perimeter of a building or demolition site for multi-point monitoring.

The 2250 or 2270 can also be configured to automatically send an SMS text or e-mail status message when pre-defined conditions or events occur. This is primarily designed for unattended monitoring and serves to keep the operator informed of measurement progress or factors affecting measurement quality.

Daniel Saunders, Application Specialist for Bruel & Kjaer UK, said: "The great thing about this system is that everything’s in one place; you can see all the levels and control all sound level meters from one computer screen. It’s also possible to remotely download information after each day’s monitoring, so the previous day’s information is to hand for meetings."
