News from CadSoft and the element14 Community

The Internet of Things (IoT) is set to be Farnell element14’s big theme at Embedded World 2014. Together with technology partners including Freescale, Atmel, Texas Instruments (TI), NXP and STMicro, Farnell element14 will unveil a host of exclusive new technologies and products, exciting demos and informative live presentations all geared towards the IoT. Farnell element14 will be located in hall 5, stand 249.

Mike Buffham, Global Head of Product & Pricing, Farnell element14 said: “For the electronics industry IoT is the single most important trend that will globally boost the market and lead a new stage in its history. As a disruptive technology IoT will impact almost every segment of the economy and society, with many analysts forecasting the IoT market will be worth somewhere between $14 trillion to $33 trillion within just a few years. Farnell element14 is hugely excited to be bringing such a wide range of ground-breaking IoT-enabling solutions to Embedded World all geared towards inspiring engineers with the ideas and building blocks to turn all the hype surrounding IoT into a reality.

“We have an exciting partnership announcement from Atmel on the first day of the event, and the stand will showcase the exclusive new open source, single board platform Revolutionizing the Internet of Things (RIoT) board, based on Freescale’s i.MX 6Solo processor. As an open platform reference design, the board has been designed for and is supported by an active community of Design Engineers and Application Developers at RIoTboard.org.“

The recently launched EXPLORE NFC expansion board, a collaboration between Farnell element14 and NXP, designed as an easy way for engineers to incorporate Near Field Communication technology into their applications will be showcased on the stand. Whilst in the field of human-machine interface (HMI) applications, the new HapTouch BoosterPack featuring TI technology will also make an appearance at the booth, giving visitors the chance to try out the expansion in form of a game controller. There will also be demos from Microchip, Raspberry Pi, ADI and FTDI.

Buffham continued: “We are seeing increasing demand for development boards with add-ons which support each of the key themes of power consumption, touch and connectivity. Farnell element14 is uniquely placed to partner with key silicon providers to launch development boads in these key areas. This has enabled Farnell element14 to become the home of the development board and our proposition means we can support the engineer right from the start of the design through to production with peripheral services.“

Significant investments made in its inventory and pricing model allow Farnell element14 to better support customers in the low to mid volume production space.

CadSoft will also be present on the Farnell element14 stand to demonstrate a new simulation tool for the award-winning CadSoft EAGLE PCB design software.

Finally, Embedded World will see the culmination of the element14 Community’s Smarter Life Challenge which asked competitors to build "Smarter Life" projects to enhance their home, office and / or car using the Cypress PSoC® 4 Pioneer Kit.
