Fibre optic technology is at the heart of RDP's bend sensors
from the Measurand range.
The single degree of freedom sensors are frequently specified for
applications as diverse as sports science, research into repetitive
strain injury, and industrial measurement of bipolar displacement,
flow, acceleration, force and magnetic fields.
The sensors have a fibre optic curvature sensor fitted to either a rigid
cantilever or within a flexible arm. They are attached to the objects
that bend either by Velcro straps or using self-adhesive fixing options.
The sensors measure bipolar joint angle deflection in single degree
of freedom joints of humans and machinery, whilst for small
measurements of human finger and toe joints a miniature version
can be mounted directly onto the skin if required. This range of bend
sensors operate using a regulated 5 to 15 volt psu, giving a ratiometric
output that requires no external signal conditioning.
Systems are available comprising an amplifier, psu and 12 bit
PC-based data acquisition system.
