FUTEK to Appear On Shark Week's "Shark School" EpisodeFUTEK teamed up with the engineers at Peacock Productions to test a great white sharks bite force by combining the IHH500 Digital Hand Held Display, IAC200 4 Channel Summing Junction Box, and three LTH500 Donut/Through Hole Load Cells. Together, these sensors made an application that will be bit by a great white shark on Sunday nights episode of Shark School at 8 PM ET/PT on the Discovery Channel.
FUTEK awaits the final results that have been said to break the great white shark bite force record. Viewers will be right alongside Michael Phelps as he learns more about these tremendous animals from Doc Gruber and Tristan Guttridge of the Bimini Shark Lab.
Shark Bite Force Measurement
Measuring the bite force of a shark was no easy task. But the engineers at Peacock Productions designed a test platform to accomplish this for Shark Week 2017. Their setup mounted several LTH500 donut load cells into a mold that simulated a shark's prey. When the shark bit down upon the mold, our sensors captured the force applied.

On Sunday, July 30, 2017, the Discovery Channels Shark Week wrapped up with a special episode, Shark School with Michael Phelps. The production team engineers at Peacock Productions used three FUTEK Donut/Through Hole load cells as well as FUTEK instrumentation to test a great white sharks bite force.
The three LTH500 Donut/Through Hole Load Cells were placed in a special mold that mimicked the shark's prey. By combining the IHH500 Digital Hand Held Display and IAC200 4 Channel Summing Junction Box with the load cell setup, the production team was able to accurately measure the force of the great white shark's bite.
The sharks bite registered at 10,000 Newtons, which is equivalent to a car crashing into a wall at 100 miles per hour. The force reading was unprecedented, as it was the first actual shark bite to register above 6,000 Newtons.
