Finding the game-changers

UK Minister for Defence, Equipment, Support & Technology, Mr. Philip Dunne MP, will interview Zettlex Managing Director Mark Howard, at the Defence Science & Technology Forum in London on 20th November 2012. The interview will examine how the UK Defence sector should access such technologies and harness these to boost exports.

Also speaking at the Forum is Steven Bowns, Director of Technology Futures - the Cambridge-based think tank. He comments: "Zettlex is a great example of a high growth SME. Zettlex has developed a game-changing technology and it's changing - some might say disrupting - the way manufacturers of defence equipment design and build their products. Zettlex has had some high profile design wins in the last couple of years in UAVs, missiles, flight refuelling and man-portable equipment, so the hurdle for equipment manufacturers of 'avoiding being first' has now been overcome. This can be seen by Zettlex's impressive export sales."

At the event, Mark Howard and Steven Bowns will both be speaking in Session 4, which is entitled "How to deliver - commercialising the investment". This will include a round table discussion.

The objective of the Forum is threefold: to look at key developments in science and technology that are likely to have a significant effect on British security and defence; to examine national strategy in the light of such potential 'game-changers'; and to establish how to encourage the development of those products and services that would benefit the country and assist in the regeneration of the economy.

This event launches a new Cityforum defence and security science and technology workstream, which will be followed by a round table debate looking specifically at bluelight S&T in Spring 2013 and a major international conference in association with DSEI in September 2013 on the eve of the London Exhibition. This will be a global forum covering how S&T will affect the armed, security and police services in the next 10 years and beyond.
