Compact Multiturn Solution with Flexible Features

Highlight at embedded world 2025 (Hall 4, Booth 370)

The new TW39_3M evaluation board combines the TMR based iC-TW39 angle sensor with the battery-buffered Hall sensor iC-PVL to form a compact end-of-shaft encoder solution for absolute angle measurement with additional revolution counting. Developers can now easily build this high-resolution magnetic multiturn encoder solution in the laboratory and conveniently put the chip duo into operation. The kit includes the appropriate magnets and connection cables, so that a working encoder system is ready for testing in no time.

The angle is resolved with up to 24 bits and supplemented by a 24-bit revolution counter.

An externally applied backup voltage source ensures that iC-PVL continues to detect full
revolutions without interruption after the main power supply is switched off. The low-power
sensor has a current consumption of approx. 3...10 µA, thus ensuring a particularly long
battery life.

The data processing of the entire encoder system is handled by the iC-TW39 singleturn device. Advanced features such as one-button on-chip calibration and automatic tracking of the optimum operating point make commissioning particularly easy and ensure optimum angular accuracy.

Communication with the encoder is via a high-performance BiSS interface. The
microcontroller integrated on the TW39_3M evaluation board allows, for example, individual adaptation of the BiSS register mapping and the integration of additional OEM data memory.

Thanks to this flexibility, customer-specific additional data can be integrated into the encoder system or even complete retrofit projects can be realised.
